Many days I would work 9 hours shifts, then spend 5 hours in college classes, then spend 3 hours doing home work for the next day's classes. Day care ate up all my wife's income so we were living on my wages for food shelter, housing, transportation, and utilities. Even having a broken arm in a cast and unemployed for 3 months didn't bring me to the level that I felt the need to go on welfare, foodstamps, and social programs. I didn't feel "entitled" to government handouts. I believed in working my way out of problems.
